Children’s Pathway

When Children have Problems with their ears they should always be assessed by their General Practitioner.

I cannot see Children under the age of 12

Children aged 0-4 should never self manage their Impacted Ear Wax.

The Parent should take them to their GP. If Ear Wax is considered problematic then they should be referred to an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.

If there is no Ear Wax – they should be referred to Paediatric Audiology for further assessment and investigations.

Children over 4 years old can self manage Impacted Ear Wax by using clean, fresh Olive Oil drops twice daily for 3-5 days.

The exceptions for this are:

  • Children with a known middle ear condition that requires management by an Ear, Nose and Throat Specalist.

Children aged 12 and over can be seen. However if they are unable to sit still during the procedure then they will have to access services via their General Practitioner.
